Manchester City recently secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen.
This win, fueled by goals from Akanji, Alvarez, and Haaland, solidified their spot in the final eight alongside other top teams like Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
As they eagerly await the draw to determine their next opponent, former City player Micah Richards has voiced his concerns about facing Real Madrid. Richards emphasized the unpredictability of the tournament and highlighted Real Madrid’s history of comebacks and prowess in high-stakes matches.
In a recent podcast interview, Richards expressed his belief that City is the strongest team in the competition but acknowledged the potential challenges that Real Madrid could pose.
“If Man City were to get Real Madrid in the quarters, you know what Real Madrid can do.
“A couple of years ago at their place, they beat PSG when they were losing, they beat Chelsea when they were losing, they’ve come back against Man City as well.
“Anything could happen in the Champions League. In terms of squad, I would say Man City are probably the favourites.”
The draw for the quarter-finals is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 15, with UEFA hosting the ceremony in Switzerland. Unlike the previous round, there are no restrictions on teams facing opponents from their own country, adding an element of unpredictability to the matchups.
Following the draw, the pathway to the semi-finals and a potential return to Wembley for the final will become clearer for Manchester City.
After securing a historic treble triumph last year, the reigning champions will be looking to defend their title and make their mark on the prestigious tournament once again.
