Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, have reportedly halted contract negotiations with their star player, Phil Foden. Foden, a standout product of City’s academy, has had a remarkable season, scoring 18 goals and providing 10 assists from various positions on the field.

During Kevin De Bruyne’s absence due to injury, Foden stepped up as an attacking midfielder and proved his versatility in the team. Following his impressive performances in the Club World Cup, there has been speculation about renegotiating his contract for better terms and an extension.

However, reports suggest that City is not keen on discussing a new contract mid-season, as they are focused on competing in multiple competitions. According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, talks with Foden have been postponed until the summer, despite his desire for improved terms to reflect his importance in the squad.

While Foden aims to be among the top earners at the club, negotiations are expected to resume once the current season concludes. Despite the delay, all parties involved are optimistic about reaching an agreement during the off-season.

Manchester City is currently in the running for a historic back-to-back Treble, competing for the Premier League title against Liverpool and Arsenal. The draw for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals will determine their path towards the final, while an FA Cup quarter-final match against Newcastle United is on the horizon.

As City navigates through a challenging end to the season, the focus remains on achieving success in multiple competitions before revisiting contract discussions with Foden.
