Manchester City’s captain, Kyle Walker, highlighted two missed opportunities in the closing minutes of their 1-1 draw at Anfield that could have secured all three points.

John Stones scored the opening goal for the reigning Premier League champions, but they failed to capitalize on it. A mistake by Nathan Ake led to a penalty for Liverpool, which they converted to equalize.

Walker mentioned in an interview with Sky Sports that there was a sense of disappointment in the City dressing room after the draw.

“I feel John (Stones) was right by saying it (the Manchester City dressing room) was a little bit deflated because you’re coming from what we’ve achieved over the last number of years and that shows a lot as a group of characters that we are in that dressing room that we’re disappointed with a draw at Anfield,” said Walker.

“I think probably with the goal where we’ve gave it them, I think, and it’s a little bit disappointing. But I thought for the spectacle of the Premier League, for a game of football of over 100 minutes, it was fantastic – you could call it a great advert, two massive teams going at eachother toe-to-toe.”

“I think we could’ve gone on and nicked it at the end where Jeremy (Doku’s) hit the post and Phil (Foden’s) had the one-on-one but they’ve also had some really good chances as well in the second-half.”

Looking ahead, Manchester City will face Newcastle United in an FA Cup quarter-final before the international break. They will then take on Arsenal in the Premier League, a crucial fixture in the title race. The match could prove to be a significant statement for either team in their pursuit of the league crown.

Overall, Walker reflected on the missed opportunities and the competitive nature of the game against Liverpool. Despite the draw, Manchester City remains focused on their upcoming fixtures and maintaining their position at the top of the Premier League table.

The team is determined to bounce back and secure crucial victories in the remaining matches of the season.
