Manchester City captain and England international Kyle Walker has expressed his desire to finish his top-level professional football career with one Premier League club.

The 32-year-old veteran full-back was close to leaving Manchester City during the last summer transfer window after the club’s historic Treble-winning season, including Champions League success.

Negotiations with Bayern Munich nearly led to Walker’s exit, but Pep Guardiola and City convinced him to stay, extending his contract and appointing him as the new club captain.

Despite the potential move, Walker remains focused on success with Manchester City but has his eye on a return to a Premier League club in the future.

In an exclusive conversation with the FIVE podcast, Walker discussed his future in the game, stating that he will continue playing at the top level for as long as he can contribute effectively.

He revealed his desire to finish his career at Sheffield United, where he started his career before moving to Tottenham.

“As long as my legs are going and I still feel that I can contribute at a certain level,” Walker said.

“I don’t want to drop down too low because the lower it gets I think it gets harder because certain things that you have the luxury of having at City – whether it is the facilities or nutrition or other – but I’d like to finish at Sheffield United,” he revealed.

Continuing on the subject of an emotional return to Bramall Lane in the coming seasons, Walker explained, “I was there from such a young age until I went to Tottenham and only played five games. I went back on loan for half a season so I think I have about 35 games.

“I’d go for as long as possible but to give back or even pass on my experience to the younger players, if I can do that then I’d like to.”

Throughout the current season, Walker has been a key player for Guardiola, maintaining his position as the starting right-back in important fixtures.

Despite facing criticism from some fans, Guardiola has shown faith in Walker, who is expected to retain his place in the England squad for the upcoming European Championships. The future of Walker at City could be uncertain, with decisions to be made regarding the loaned-out right-back Yan Couto.

Overall, Walker’s intention to finish his career in the Premier League with one club showcases his commitment to the game and his desire to leave a lasting impact on the next generation of players. As he continues to perform at a high level, his leadership and experience will be valuable assets for any team he represents in the future.
