“I found out” – Napoli chief claims Erling Haaland transfer plan dramatically thwarted by agent

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland was reportedly close to signing for Napoli, but the club’s president claims that agent Mino Raiola prevented the deal from happening. Despite this, Haaland ended up signing for Manchester City in July 2022 for £51 million from Borussia Dortmund, beating out other top clubs for his signature.

During his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, Haaland scored 52 goals in 53 appearances, setting new goalscoring records and helping Manchester City achieve a treble by winning the Premier League, Champions League, and Emirates FA Cup. However, he has faced some injury setbacks this season, missing matches including the FIFA Club World Cup due to a foot injury.

Despite signing a five-year deal with Manchester City, rumors have circulated about a potential move to Real Madrid, prompting talks of a contract extension to address a release clause in his current contract. Prior to joining City and Dortmund, Haaland played for RB Salzburg, where Napoli was interested in signing him before Raiola intervened.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis explained that he wanted to buy Haaland for €50m when he was at Salzburg, but Raiola advised him to avoid the player as he already had plans for Haaland’s future. Raiola passed away before Haaland’s move to Manchester City, and the striker is now represented by Rafaela Pimenta.

Haaland continues to impress on the field, with 29 goals in 33 appearances this season, showcasing his talent and potential as one of the top strikers in the world. Despite the roadblocks in his transfer to Napoli, Haaland has made a significant impact at Manchester City and remains a key player for the club.
