Manchester City have reportedly approved the transfer of up-and-coming Argentine attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri to sister club Girona at the beginning of next year.
The Premier League champions fended off significant interest in the young playmaker during the last January transfer window, securing Echeverri on a contract until the summer of 2028 for a fee of £12.5 million plus add-ons.
However, Manchester City fans will have to wait to see Claudio Echeverri in their training gear or at the City Football Academy, as he will remain on loan at River Plate until the end of 2024.
This wait may extend until the conclusion of the 2024/25 season in England and across Europe, as a recent report indicates that Echeverri will join La Liga’s Girona in January 2025, as confirmed by Argentina-based journalist Sebastián Srur.
While details are scarce, it is likely to be an initial six-month loan arrangement, with Manchester City determining if Echeverri can become a part of the Etihad Stadium squad for the 2025/26 season.
Echeverri is set to join a list of promising Manchester City prospects sent on loan to Girona, with the club being seen as an ideal environment for player development under the coaching of manager Míchel.
This season has already seen Yan Couto, on loan from Manchester City, shine in La Liga with Girona and earn a call-up to the Brazilian national team.
Additionally, Manchester City will sign Savio from ESTAC Troyes based on his performances at Girona, with the player set to join Pep Guardiola’s side for the upcoming pre-season tour of the USA.
