Former Arsenal player turned pundit, Paul Merson, has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against Bournemouth.
City’s last league match ended in a 1-0 victory over Brentford, with Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal in the second half at the Etihad Stadium.
This weekend, City will once again hit the road as they visit Bournemouth in hopes of keeping pace with league leaders Liverpool.
Merson, in his latest column for Sportskeeda, previewed and predicted all the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, including City’s clash against Bournemouth.
He said: “Manchester City haven’t looked particularly impressive recently. Chelsea gave them a hard game and created chances of their own. City played against Brentford in their midweek fixture, and they never really went anywhere with their passing.
“This won’t be an easy game for Man City. The pressure’s on at the moment, and they’re four points behind Liverpool in the title race. If they fail to win this game and then lose to Liverpool, it could mark the end of their title run.
“Bournemouth had a great run in the middle of their season but haven’t won their last four Premier League games. Man City aren’t blowing teams away at the moment, but I expect them to keep the pressure on Liverpool and win this game. 1-2.”
While Bournemouth had a strong run mid-season, they have failed to win their last four league games. However, City maintains a significant lead over them in the table, having scored more goals and conceded fewer.
Nevertheless, Bournemouth’s resilience after their heavy defeat to City earlier in the season suggests that this upcoming match will be a challenging one for Guardiola’s side.
With City needing a win to stay in the title race, all eyes will be on their performance against Bournemouth. Merson predicts a 2-1 victory for City, highlighting the importance of this match in maintaining their pursuit of the Premier League title.
