Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has shared updates on the fitness of three key players ahead of their upcoming match against Bournemouth.
The team is set to face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend, aiming to close the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool.
After a draw with Chelsea last weekend, Manchester City secured a 1-0 victory over Brentford on Tuesday with a goal from Erling Haaland.
Guardiola opted to leave Kevin De Bruyne out of the starting lineup due to fresh injury concerns, but De Bruyne, who recently returned from a six-month absence due to hamstring surgery, may feature in the upcoming match.
Guardiola said: “He’s not injured. I don’t know if he’s 100% but I think we took a good decision not to take a risk (against Brentford). We took a decision because he did not feel comfortable.”
Guardiola also provided updates on the fitness of Jack Grealish and Josko Gvardiol, who are currently sidelined with injuries
Grealish suffered a calf problem in a Champions League match, while Gvardiol is out with an ankle ligament injury. Both players are not expected to be available for the Bournemouth clash, but could be back in contention next month.
Guardiola mentioned that Grealish and Gvardiol are getting closer to a return to action.
He said: “I think this week no, but it’s closer. I don’t know exactly I didn’t speak to the doctors but they are closer.”
Bournemouth, who have not won a Premier League match since December, will be looking to bounce back from a 2-2 draw against Newcastle. In their previous encounter, Manchester City dominated Bournemouth with a 6-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
The match against Bournemouth is crucial for Manchester City as they aim to keep pace with Liverpool at the top of the table. With upcoming games against rivals Manchester United and Liverpool, Guardiola will be hoping to have a fully fit squad to maintain their title challenge.
