In a recent interview with the Mirror, Manchester City midfielder Rodri criticized the Ballon d’Or awards. Despite finishing fifth in the voting, Rodri remains unfazed by the overlook of his talents.

“I am not surprised,” Rodri told the Mirror, and relayed by the Daily Mail

“This is normal. I understand very well how things work in these individual awards. They are based on marketing, money and advertising.”

He expressed his understanding of how individual awards are based on marketing, money, and advertising, emphasizing that what ultimately matters to him in football is what he achieved collectively.

“There have been midfielders before who were also Spanish who did not get what they deserved. Do you understand what I mean?

“What ultimately matters to me in football Is what I achieved collectively.”

Rodri’s individual success pales in comparison to his collective achievements since joining Manchester City in 2019.

With an impressive trophy haul that includes three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, one Champions League title, and three Carabao Cups, Rodri has become an integral part of the success of the team.

Currently, Manchester City is in pole position in the Premier League, just two points behind league leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand.

Additionally, the team recently secured an impressive 3-1 win against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League round of 16.

Despite his personal accomplishments and the success of his team, Rodri continues to express his dissatisfaction with the individual accolades in football.

He believes that midfielders, especially those from Spain, often do not receive the recognition they deserve in individual awards. However, he remains focused on achieving collective success and contributing to the overall achievements of his team.

Looking ahead, Manchester City will be turning their attention back to the Premier League as they prepare to host a struggling Chelsea side.

With their sights set on continued success in both domestic and European competitions, Rodri remains dedicated to contributing to the collective achievements of Manchester City.
