Raheem Sterling sends two-word message to former Man City teammate Joe Hart after announcing retirement

Raheem Sterling had a message for his former Manchester City teammate Joe Hart after the latter announced his retirement from football at the end of the season. Sterling and Hart played together at Manchester City for one season during the 2015/2016 campaign before Hart was sent on loan to Torino soon after Pep Guardiola’s arrival in 2016.

The duo also played together for the England national team for several years, notably participating in Euro 2016. Both players started for Roy Hodgson’s side during a disappointing tournament for the Three Lions, as they were knocked out by Iceland in the Round of 16 in a shocking 2-1 defeat.

During their time at Manchester City, they were under the management of Manuel Pellegrini and finished fourth in the Premier League. Sterling made 23 league appearances in his debut campaign for the Sky Blues, while Hart played in 35 matches.

The pair also won the Carabao Cup that season, defeating Liverpool in the final on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time. In response to Hart’s decision to retire, Sterling commented “top class” on Hart’s Instagram post.

A little over two weeks ago, former Manchester City defender Gael Clichy claimed that Hart is the best goalkeeper he has ever played with in his career. Vincent Kompany also praised Hart, stating that he was unbelievable and became a real leader during his time at the Etihad Stadium. Now-Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford described the 36-year-old as his “hero” on Instagram in July last year.

Hart enjoyed a successful career and it is hoped that he enjoys his retirement after all his efforts, especially in a Manchester City shirt. His retirement was met with kind words and appreciation from former teammates and players throughout the football community.
