There are reports linking Manchester City with a potential move for AC Milan and Portugal international Rafael Leao in the upcoming summer transfer window. Despite still being in the midst of the current season, transfer rumors involving the Premier League champions for the next summer market are already gaining traction in the global sporting media.
Recent speculation suggested that Manchester City was showing interest in the want-away Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe, even though the player is widely expected to join Real Madrid. However, the focus has now shifted to Rafael Leao, an exciting talent in Italian football.
According to Spanish media outlet Fichajes, there is interest from England in AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao, with Manchester City reportedly preparing a ‘super offer’ for the player. Despite Leao recently signing a new contract with his current club, Manchester City is said to be willing to offer €100 million for the highly-rated Portugal international winger.
However, it is important to note that Leao’s release clause with Milan is worth €150 million. This means that any club seeking to acquire him would likely be rejected if their offer falls significantly short of this valuation.
Leao has had a relatively average season by his standards, with 30 appearances across all competitions for Milan, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. He first joined Milan in 2019 for a reported transfer fee of €35 million plus a 20% sell-on clause.
It is unclear whether Manchester City is genuinely interested in Leao or if these reports are just speculation. However, there is a belief that should an opportunity to strengthen in wide attacking positions arise, Manchester City officials would be open to the idea.
As the season progresses, it remains to be seen if Manchester City will pursue their reported interest in Leao or if they will turn their attention elsewhere in the transfer market.
