Giovanni Galli has suggested that if he was in Pep Guardiola’s position, he would let Erling Haaland leave Manchester City to sign Dusan Vlahovic.

Before Haaland and Vlahovic moved to Manchester City and Juventus respectively, the two young strikers were considered to be the best in the world. Haaland was dominating in the Bundesliga during his time at Borussia Dortmund, while Vlahovic was doing the same in Serie A at Fiorentina.

However, since Haaland joined Manchester City and Vlahovic signed for Juventus, their fates have been quite different. Haaland has won the treble and broken the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring record for a single season, while Vlahovic has not been able to replicate his brilliance from his time at Fiorentina.

Giovanni Galli believes that he would let Haaland depart Manchester City to sign Dusan Vlahovic. He suggests that Haaland has the advantage of playing in a team generating more goalscoring opportunities, unlike Vlahovic at Juventus.

“Maybe it may seem like a provocation to you, but for me, it’s not that much of a provocation: if I were [Pep] Guardiola and they told me, ‘You would make the exchange between [Dusan] Vlahovic and [Erling] Haaland’, I would do it easily. Dusan has nothing to envy the Norwegian“, he told Tuttosport.

Galli claims that Vlahovic could also score 50 goals a season like Haaland if he were at Manchester City, due to the higher number of chances that the team creates.

“At Juve [Juventus], he must take advantage of the few opportunities that come his way because the Bianconeri are not a team that doesn’t grind out play like City who have 10 chances per game. Yet Vlahovic already has 12 goals despite everything. I’d like to see him in a more attacking team. If he were at Manchester City, he would also score 50 goals a season like Haaland. I’m sure”.

While Vlahovic is having an excellent season, it is hard to argue against the fact that Haaland is arguably the best striker in the world. Although Vlahovic is technically well-rounded, he still needs to improve his movement, positioning, finishing, and athleticism to reach Haaland’s standards.

In conclusion, it is difficult to understand Giovanni Galli’s rationale, whether it is due to recency bias or just a preference for Vlahovic as a player. Despite this, Galli believes that City should be willing to let Haaland leave to sign Vlahovic. If it were to happen, it could potentially be a significant change in the world of football.
