New investor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently acquired a 25% stake in Manchester United, has reportedly engaged in discussions with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak to talk about football strategy. The approved deal, valued at around $1.3 billion, allows Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group to take control of football operations at Old Trafford, while the Glazer family retains a majority stake in the club.

The hiring of Omar Berrada from Manchester City as the CEO of Manchester United indicates a close relationship between Ratcliffe and the Etihad side. MailSport’s Mike Keegan reported that Ratcliffe and Al Mubarak discussed the financial strategy in football and the potential returns on investment. Al Mubarak also noted that the City Group, including Manchester City, had doubled in value since the Abu Dhabi takeover in 2008.

The report also mentioned that Ratcliffe congratulated Al Mubarak when Manchester City won the treble last summer, highlighting the warm relationship between the two. As one of the leading football operations globally, Manchester City has expanded its stadium capacity and is undertaking further expansion and regeneration projects, including a new training facility adjacent to the stadium, set to be completed by 2026.

The Abu Dhabi Group’s investment in Manchester City has not only revitalized the east Manchester area but also created numerous jobs and improved the overall environment for the city’s residents. The development projects have contributed to the growth and prosperity of Manchester as a whole.

These discussions and the close relationship between Ratcliffe and Al Mubarak suggest a potential collaboration between the two clubs, with Ratcliffe aiming to bring the same level of success and development to Manchester United as Al Mubarak has achieved with Manchester City.
