A recent report has indicated that there are discussions at Manchester United regarding the potential appointment of former Manchester City director Jason Wilcox to a prominent position within the club. Wilcox initially joined Manchester City’s coaching staff in 2012 as an academy coach, eventually progressing to the role of under-18’s head coach and then academy director in 2017. During his tenure, Wilcox oversaw significant achievements, including a national championship title and two FA Youth Cup finals.
After gaining experience in higher-level positions, Wilcox may now be returning to Manchester, this time at Old Trafford, as part of the ongoing development of the club. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Manchester United is actively working to secure a deal to bring Southampton’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, on board as a key figure within the club’s new sporting hierarchy. While negotiations have not yet commenced with Southampton, Wilcox is aware of the interest from Old Trafford.
Wilcox resigned as Manchester City’s academy director in January 2023 before joining Southampton, despite Manchester City’s efforts to retain him. During his time at City, Wilcox was instrumental in the development of several high-profile talents, including Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho, Oscar Bobb, Rico Lewis, and Cole Palmer.
Wilcox’s potential move to Manchester United signifies a significant development in the club’s efforts to build a strong sporting foundation. His expertise and experience in developing young talent could prove valuable as the club aims to reinforce its position in the footballing world.
