Manchester City is reportedly recalling their on-loan full-back talent Josh Wilson-Esbrand, who is currently playing in French football and developing his skills. This move is part of Manchester City’s strategy to further develop their youth talents in senior level football, and comes on transfer deadline day.

Despite receiving interest from various clubs, including three Championship sides interested in Micah Hamilton, Manchester City has rebuffed all communications. Now, the focus is on the future of another on-loan prospect, with Josh Wilson-Esbrand expected to be recalled from his loan agreement with Ligue 1 outfit Stade de Reims due to concerns over game time.

According to French outlet Le Parisien, Manchester City’s decision to recall Wilson-Esbrand is based on the expectation that he will not get enough playing time at Stade de Reims, especially after the club’s recent acquisition of left-back Sergio Akieme.

During his time with the Manchester City first-team squad, Wilson-Esbrand had limited opportunities, making just three appearances across all competitions and recording an assist. This decision to recall him comes as Pep Guardiola has been using players out of position in the left-back role, with Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake interchanging in the position.

Wilson-Esbrand signed a long-term deal with Manchester City in February 2022, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027.

Overall, this move to recall Wilson-Esbrand is in line with Manchester City’s focus on developing their youth talents and ensuring that they get enough playing time to continue their growth in senior level football.
