A new report has revealed that Manchester City may be in for a fierce transfer battle to secure the services of one of the most promising up-and-coming prospects in the Championship.
This prospect is the latest addition to Manchester City’s continuous search for emerging talent in the global game, following the recent high-profile youth signings. The club recently finalized a deal for Claudio Echeverri from River Plate, with an initial value of £12.5 million, keeping the Argentina youth international on loan in South America until the end of the year.
Manchester City is also expected to secure Girona’s loan star Savio this summer, with a reported agreement with fellow City Group club ESTAC Troyes for a deal worth €30 million. However, the club’s latest pursuit takes them closer to home, as they set their sights on Sunderland’s talented 16-year-old midfielder, Chris Rigg, who is garnering interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
According to the Sunderland Echo, Manchester City, along with Premier League rivals Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool, as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, are keen on Chris Rigg’s talents. Despite his young age, Rigg has already made several senior appearances for Sunderland, including seven times in Championship matches and scoring his first senior goal in a 5-0 win over Southampton last September.
He also scored a goal in the EFL Cup against Crewe Alexandra, although the squad ultimately fell short due to a penalty shoot-out defeat.
Manchester City’s pursuit of Chris Rigg highlights the club’s commitment to identifying and securing emerging talent at all levels of the game. The potential transfer battle for Rigg’s services showcases the competition and demand for promising young players in today’s football landscape.
