A forensic lip reader has disclosed the exact exchange between Kyle Walker and Neal Maupay during a heated altercation at the Brentford Community Stadium on Monday night.
The confrontation occurred during Manchester City’s 1-3 victory against Brentford, with Phil Foden’s hat-trick putting Pep Guardiola’s side in a commanding position.
The tension began when Maupay scored Brentford’s only goal in the first half, but was unable to follow up with more shots.
His frustration appeared to be directed at the Manchester City players throughout the rest of the game, leading to the confrontation with the captain, Kyle Walker, which required intervention from the officials and Guardiola.
According to a report by MailSport and forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman, Walker was heard shouting, “I’m gonna knock him (Neal Maupay) out!” while approaching the fourth official.
Referee Stuart Attwell responded with, “Shush,” but Walker continued, “Wait there,” pointing towards the Brentford tunnel.
Walker then told the match referee Jarred Gillet that Maupay had talked about his kids, to which Maupay interrupted, denying the accusation.
Gillet attempted to calm the situation by telling Walker to deal with it at the end of the game and advising Maupay to calm down and think about it.
Manchester City now have a period away from competitive action before their next Premier League fixture against Everton at the Etihad Stadium.
The victory over Brentford brought Manchester City within two points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table, with a game in hand. The team is in a promising position as they continue their pursuit of retaining the Premier League title.
