Giovanni Reyna has cited Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne as his footballing role model.
The 21-year-old, who is the son of former City player, Claudio Reyna, recently joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Borussia Dortmund, where he spent time playing alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji.
With the midfielder now set to have his first taste of Premier League football, the American has named one current top-flight midfielder as someone he looks up to.
In a recent quick-fire Q&A video shared on Forest’s official Tik Tok account, Reyna was asked who his footballing idol is, which he then said was De Bruyne. City signed the midfielder back in the 2015 summer transfer window from Wolfsburg in a deal worth £55m.
Since then, the Belgian has made 362 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring 97 goals, delivering 157 assists, and winning numerous trophies along the way.
With the 32-year-old now having the third-highest number of Premier League assists (104) to his name, it’s safe to say that he is seen as one of the best players English football has ever had in it.
In fact, back in April, De Bruyne was voted as the best Premier League midfielder of all time in a poll ran by football data outlet Visual Game.
This makes it easy to see why Reyna, who had only started two of the 14 games he appeared in for Dortmund prior to his temporary move to Forest, considers De Bruyne to be his footballing idol.
Moving forward, with Pep Guardiola’s side set to take on Forest at the City Ground in April, it’ll be interesting to see if Reyna gets the chance to face off against De Bruyne and his former Dortmund teammates.
