Pep Guardiola heralded his flying winger Jeremy Doku as a Manchester City star for the exciting future.

After falling to two defeats against Wolves and Arsenal, the Citizens got back to winning ways this afternoon by beating Brighton 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

A second-half goal from Ansu Fati wasn’t enough to cancel out the home side’s first-half strikes from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland.

Despite not getting his name on the scoresheet on this occasion, one City player who managed to make a big impact on the game was Doku.

The Belgian international set up the first goal and led the Brighton defence a merry dance in a pulsating first half performance.

Against Brighton, Doku took three shots and one of them was on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 83.8%, took 57 touches, attempted five dribbles, made one tackle, and put in two crosses.

This performance ultimately earned the winger an overall match rating of 8.3/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated player on the day.

Guardiola was impressed by the display produced by Jeremy Doku against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The City boss said: “He is an exceptional winger. He is smart. He has the quality to go to the byline for the first goal. I’m really pleased for his impact since he has come in to us. He can be a star for many years to come in this house.”

Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison was also impressed by the display produced by Jeremy Doku.

Morrison said on Sky Sports News (3:15pm, October 21, 2023): “I will tell you one thing. This Doku on the left-hand side looks really lively.”
