Premier league legend Sergio Aguero has now tipped Valentin Barco to leave Boca Juniors for Manchester City in 2024.
The 19-year-old left-back, who can also play further forward in midfield, has been one of the revelations of South American football over the last few months.
There have been a lot of rumours involving the 19-year-old and Manchester City. Real Madrid, Celtic, Nottingham Forest, Barcelona and Wolves are also all making notes on his progression (90Min).
Argentina legend Juan Roman Riquelme, now Boca’s vice-president, describes Barco as ‘technically very good’ (The Argus).
The Guardian, back in 2021, included the teenager in their list of ‘the best young talents in world football’, Barco featuring alongside Romeo Lavia, Youssoufa Moukoko, Julio Encisco, Gavi and new Chelsea starlet Angelo Gabriel.
And, as far as Sergio Aguero is concerned, Barco is destined to end up at the reigning European champions, amid claims that the City Football Group are closing in on a deal for a player with a £10 million release clause in his contract.
As quoted by Olé, the 35-year-old said: “Very good player. Is he going to last a little longer at Boca or not? I don’t think he’ll last long. He’s very good. (Manchester) City will surely take him.”
An update from respected South American journalist Martin Liberman even claimed that Guardiola has already sent Barco a fitness plan to work on, so there certainly seems to be something going on.
It remains to be seen if Barco would immediately become part of Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans at the Etihad Stadium, or whether he would be loaned out to one of City’s many sister clubs. Girona, for instance, have benefitted immensely from their partnership with the treble-winners.
