Man City left sweating as injured England star forced to withdraw from Ukraine qualifier

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish has been ruled out of England’s upcoming fixtures against Ukraine and Scotland.

The 27-year-old became the latest Manchester City star to suffer an injury, as a thigh problem forced the Englishman to miss the Blues’ win over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Marco Silva’s side, as Erling Haaland’s second-half hat-trick propelled the treble-winners to a fourth consecutive Premier League victory.

Juanma Lillo, who continues to take charge of the treble-winners amid Pep Guardiola’s absence, handed a Manchester City and Premier League debut to new signing Jeremy Doku, as Jack Grealish became the latest absentee due to injury.

The England forward had started the Blues’ previous two Premier League matches against Newcastle and Sheffield United, but was absent from the matchday squad for this weekend’s win over Fulham.

Manchester City’s next Premier League match is against West Ham on Saturday 16th September, following the conclusion of the upcoming international break.

Grealish’s availability for both Manchester City and England is a notable concern however, after Gareth Southgate named the 27-year-old as part of his Three Lions squad for upcoming matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

However, Grealish have withdrawn from the England squad for the upcoming international break.

An FA statement read: “Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been ruled out of England’s September fixtures. The pair reported to St. George’s Park on Monday but have since withdrawn from the Three Lions squad following checks on injuries sustained prior to camp.

“All other players are due as planned apart from Kieran Trippier who will arrive on Wednesday owing to a personal commitment. There are no further call ups planned as Gareth Southgate’s squad prepare for Saturday’s UEFA EURO 2024 against Ukraine in Wroclaw and Tuesday’s 150th Anniversary Heritage Match with Scotland in Glasgow.”
