Manchester City will reportedly use Tommy Doyle in a part exchange to try and land a deal for Matheus Nunes.
Pep Guardiola’s side continue to pursue a new midfield signing during the remaining days of the summer transfer window, having identified Premier League pair Matheus Nunes and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Ez after the dramatic collapse of the Blues’ planned Lucas Paqueta deal.
The exit of Ilkay Gundogan and long-term injury sustained by Kevin De Bruyne has forced the Sky Blues to accelerate plans to sign a new midfielder.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Citizens had a £47m bid turned down by Wolves for the midfielder but are expected to make another offer for the player.
Now though, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding what that new offer could look like.
A recent report from talkSPORT had this to say on the situation.
It said: “Tommy Doyle is likely to join Wolves from Manchester City if Matheus Nunes makes the switch from Molineux to the Etihad Stadium. Midfielder Doyle was already on Wolves’ list of targets before City’s interest in Nunes emerged.
“Having had one offer of £47m rejected, the treble winners are lining up a fresh bid which is set to include Doyle in part exchange. talkSPORT understands Nunes has made it clear to the Wolves hierarchy that he wants to join Pep Guardiola’s side.
“Wolves are holding out for a fee worth north of £60m for the Portuguese ace. Meanwhile, Doyle, 21, could be an ideal replacement, having starred on loan at Sheffield United last season in their promotion campaign.”
Nunes has reportedly made it clear to the Wolves hierarchy of his desire to move to the Etihad Stadium, although Manchester City’s next bid is ‘likely’ to be their last one for the midfielder, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Wolves face Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, meanwhile Manchester City travel to Bramall Lane to play newly-promoted Sheffield United on Sunday.
