Manchester City are confident of completing a deal to sign Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes after submitting a new bid.
The Portuguese has emerged as a target for the reigning Premier League champions as they look to bolster their midfield options.
West Ham United’s Lucas Paqueta did look likely to join City, before the Brazilian was put under investigation for alleged breaches of betting rules.
The Citizens have therefore turned their attention to Nunes, who joined Wolves from Sporting CP last summer.
Manchester City saw an opening bid of €50m plus €5m add-ons rejected, but have now returned with a new offer for the Portugal international.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are ‘confident’ of completing a deal after launching a new bid for Matheus Nunes, worth around €60m with add-ons.
The Sky Blues are ‘optimistic’ about making the 24-year-old their fourth addition of the summer, having previously agreed personal terms with the player.
It remains to be seen whether or not Wolves would be willing to sell the player with such little time remaining to source a replacement.
Nunes, 25, made 39 appearances across all competitions during his debut season in England, and was praised for his impressive run of form.
The midfielder started Wolves’ opening two matches of the campaign, but missed the visit to Goodison Park on Saturday after being sent off during their 4-1 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion last week.
