Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have stepped up their interest in Rennes winger Jeremy Doku as a candidate to replace Riyad Mahrez this summer.
The 21-year-old joined Les Rouge et Noirs from Anderlecht for an initial €26m (£22.2m) in the summer of 2020 and he has since developed into one of the brightest prospects in Ligue 1.
Doku has struggled with niggling injuries over the last two seasons and has subsequently been reduced to just 43 top-flight starts since the beginning of 2021-22.
Nevertheless, the 14-cap Belgium international has chipped in with 10 goals and 11 assists for Rennes in all competitions, including seven goals and four assists in 37 appearances last season.
Doku, primarily a right-winger, is understood to have caught the eye of a number of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Aston Villa, as well as Serie A duo Napoli and AC Milan.
According to the information of The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath, Stade Rennais and Belgium international winger Jérémy Doku is now being ‘strongly considered’ at Manchester City in the Premier League champions’ hunt for a Riyad Mahrez replacement.
As yet however, it is stated that there has been no official offer made by Manchester City to the Ligue 1 club for the 21-year-old.
However the Telegraph reports that the forward is expected to be the French club’s record departure when he eventually leaves, surpassing the £35 million West Ham paid for Nayef Aguerd in the summer of 2022.
It is claimed that Jérémy Doku is valued at between €50 million and €60 million by his current side, with personal terms ‘not believed to be an issue’ should a deal with Manchester City progress as planned by the Etihad club.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
