Manchester City have reportedly moved ahead of Chelsea, Juventus and Brighton & Hove Albion in the race to sign Boca Juniors teenager Valentin Barco.

The 19-year-old, who is already drawing comparisons with Marcelo, plays for Boca Juniors in Argentina and has some caps for his country’s Under-20 sides to his name.

The youngster is one of the finest players of his age group and was among those name-dropped by The Guardian as a potential superstar of the future.

Barco certainly is doing justice to those expectations and is now courting interest from many European clubs including Manchester City, Chelsea, Juventus and Brighton.

According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola’s side are working on the addition of left-back Valentin Barco ahead of competition from Brighton, Juventus and Chelsea.

The left-back has a dynamic passing range and has shown himself capable of performing at either end of the pitch. However, he is still young and will benefit from ironing out certain kinks in his armour.

Playing for a manager such as Pep Guardiola will do the young Argentine well and bode right for his development.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@BaddestBoy7664: “Bring him in!!”

@mbaalt8: “He’s very good. Hopefully we complete the signing ahead of the other teams. He’s been excellent in the libertadores for boca”

@ManchestxrCity: “I’m Argentinian and i watch him every match and he’s special, top talent”

@ratzinger254: “Marcelo regen will be with us here soon. My club is cooking”

@DanO_McG: “This kid is ELECTRIC, if we get him this is as big as getting Álvarez out of Argentina for pennies.”

@PepDegree: “He’ll just be another Perrone. Saw him for 10min since he joined and then he got loaned out. Doesn’t move me. I know when club is signing players they’ll play and when they’re signing so they can dangle the chance of playing in first team just to ship them to spain/Italy.”
