Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club have no interest in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Pep Guardiola is considering making a move to sign the Dutchman, who Barcelona value at £90m, after missing out on sealing a deal for Declan Rice.
Now, some fresh information has come to light about the Manchester club’s current stance on the midfielder.
According to a recent report from City Xtra, sources at the Etihad Stadium have told them that the club have no interest in signing De Jong this summer.
As per the report, with Phil Foden expected to take up a more central role next season, whilst also covering out wide, outgoings in midfield are expected to drive any further additions to Pep Guardiola’s options in the middle of the park.
Now that it has been claimed that the Citizens are not interested in pursuing a deal for the Barcelona star this summer, this could be a disappointment for some supporters given how impressive the player is, especially after missing out on Rice.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
@futureadiankpo: “That’s quite disappointing. I was just beginning to enjoy the fairytale.”
@magicalsilva21: “That’s a shame but I expected the same. De Jong does fit the profile we’re looking for but he won’t leave.”
@harrythestarrr: “Who’s the midfielders city will sign? Embarrassing.”
@Gaza_Prince22: “To be honest this guy has been priced out of the market. His salary is too high..”
@livermorej92: “Good. The kind of wages he is on make no sense..”
@wellactually89: “He might be the the least transferable player of all time..”
@Sir LSG: “We need to start acting quicker with intent during transfer windows. We have pull and we’re seen as world class by clubs. We have players who want to leave and can be used in swap deals open your f**king eyes at the opportunity to boost our midfield..”
