Leicester City are reportedly set to complete the loan signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle.
The 19-year-old was part of a Coventry City defence that reached the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium, battling it out for a place in the Premier League against Luton Town – who ultimately come out on top.
Clearly, the teenager is in City’s plans, as he officially penned a contract until 2027 with the club in January this year.
Often compared to Aymeric Laporte, the Englishman is also an incredible passer, known to also be very comfortable when tasked to carry the ball out of defence and most importantly, is an astute reader of the game at the back.
Now, Jack Gaughan has revealed that Callum Doyle is ‘set to complete’ a loan move to Leicester City, with the deal all but official.
According to the Daily Mail‘s Jack Gaughan, Doyle is “set to complete” a move to Filbert Way, which will see him arrive on a season-long loan. The deal would apparently not include an option to buy the young defender.
It had been reported that Leicester wanted to buy the defender, valued at £7million to £10million, but he will now move on loan instead.
He is considered to have a bright future at his parent club, earlier this year signing a new contract until the summer of 2027.
Doyle made 41 appearances for Coventry City in the Championship last season as they reached the play-off final, earning rave reviews from supporters and local media.
In 2020/21, as a 17-year-old, Doyle made 14 appearances for Man City’s under-21s under the management of Maresca, so the duo know each other well. He was also part of the England squad that won the Under-19 Euros last summer.
