Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are ‘really close’ to reaching an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
The Croatia international has been a key player for the Blues over the years. However, with just one year remaining on his contract, Mauricio Pochettino is set to sell him this summer.
Now, Man City are poised to swoop in for Kovacic, with Pep Guardiola believed to be a big admirer of the midfielder.
This is according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, who revealed on Wednesday that the Cityzens had opened ‘concrete talks’ to sign the Chelsea star.
The talks must have progressed well, as Kovacic is now on the verge of reaching an agreement with Man City.
On Twitter, Romano said: “More on Mateo Kovacic and Manchester City news revealed yesterday.
“Been told the agreement on the personal terms between Kovacic and City is really close, almost completed.
“Man City and Chelsea will be in direct contact to discuss the fee. Kovacic will leave.”
Since joining the London club from Real Madrid back in 2019, Kovacic has made 221 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@RealTalkMCFC: “What a signing 🔥”
@danielharrod09: “Will be a good addition. I just hope Gundogan is staying for another year or so.”
@M_alqash: “With a reduced transfer price, it would be an excellent deal. I really hope Ilkay Gundogan stays.”
@mcfc_robin2: “He’s gonna be a sleeper signing of the window. Very good player, reasonably priced and is probably a rotation player.”
@geezy_94: “Smart signing, even better deal if City can get him for under 30. Don’t think this necessarily means Gundo or Bernardo are out either as we needed depth in the midfield. He’s capable of playing both the 6 & 8 positions so he’ll be a solid versatile & experienced rotational player”
@kabelo_mor3: “Actually think he’ll be one of those low-key signings like Akanji.”
@NaitMCFC: “Like many people i’m not too excited about this signing. BUT… Pep and the staff know what they’re doing, most of us wasn’t sold on Akanji and look how he has done. Fact is the club wouldn’t sign a player unless Pep thinks he would be useful..”
@ov_mcfc: “If pep want kovacic I will not argue with it, in Guardiola we trust..”
