Kevin De Bruyne insists Manchester City’s sole focus is on our own performances as the Premier League title race hots up.
City continued to apply pressure onto the league leaders by hammering relegation strugglers Southampton 4-1 on Saturday. That saw the gap at the top close to five points, with Pep Guardiola’s side still holding a game in hand, ahead of Arsenal’s fixture against Liverpool.
The Gunners have been relentless in the face of City’s growing form but finally buckled at Anfield. They took a two-goal lead but ended up escaping through the skin of their teeth as Liverpool brought it back to 2-2.
Their lead is up to six points but it has put the title race into City’s hands. But De Bruyne has called for City to avoid looking too far ahead in a captivating two-horse race.
“We know we are behind [Arsenal], but we can only control what we can control,” he said.
“We know there’s a lot of games to play, we know tough periods are ahead and every game is a must win.
“We’ve been in this situation before, and we focus on ourselves.”
These De Bruyne’s comments was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@stayyfetysh: “That’s the mentality lads. We’ll fight till the end”
@KinderDeBueno: “Just win all our games and we win the title. Forget about Arsenal. It’s in our hands.”
@john_jr305: “Just win all our games we are the champion we don’t need to care about how they do”
