Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised Cole Palmer for his excellent performances this season after being sold to Chelsea for £42.5m last summer. Guardiola acknowledged that he was unable to offer Palmer the game time needed to thrive at City, highlighting the player’s talents and development.

Guardiola emphasized that players have a significant impact on their own development, despite reports crediting him for Phil Foden’s success. Palmer has excelled at Chelsea, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists in 41 appearances. His success in a no.10 role at Chelsea may not have been possible at City due to competition from Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

The decision to sell Palmer seems to have worked out well for the player, with Guardiola hinting that City may regret letting him go. Palmer’s impressive performances at Chelsea may have shown City that they missed out on a valuable talent, especially considering his potential to break into the starting lineup under Guardiola if he had been more patient.
