‘Superb player to replace Laporte’, ‘he’s extremely good’ – Man City fans react as club now plotting move to sign 20-year-old centre-back

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are interested in Chelsea defender Levi Colwill.

Colwill has been making waves over the past two years. Last season he was one of the best defenders in the Championship with Huddersfield Town, while he’s taken to Premier League football with Brighton like a duck to water.

The 20-year-old centre-back joined Brighton on loan as a makeweight in the £62m deal that took Marc Cucurella to Stamford Bridge last summer.

It’s no real surprise that the Daily Mail claims that Colwill could be in line for a call-up to the senior England squad later this year.

Colwill’s Chelsea deal currently runs until 2025 and it is understood that the Blues will hold contract talks with the young centre-back to try keep him, but his future may hang on whether a new deal can be sorted.

According to The London Evening Standard, Pep Guardiola’s side are in the race to sign the Chelsea defender who is currently on loan at Brighton.

As per the report, Guardiola is prepared to sanction an exit for Aymeric Laporte this summer and City are ready to move to prise Colwill away from Chelsea.
