Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola personally wants to sign Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window.
Tierney, who sees his contract at the Emirates Stadium expire in 2026, has struggled for game time at the Emirates Stadium this season following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, although he did feature from the beginning of Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw against West Ham.
The Scotland international has impressed when called upon but Mikel Arteta demands a specific profile of full-back in his backline – a tactical set-up which, in fairness, has launched a title charge.
With Tierney out of favour in north London, he’s been heavily linked with an exit. According to Football Transfers, Manchester City boss Guardiola wanted to sign Tierney from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The former Barcelona boss spoke to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta about the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) Scotland international left-back in the middle of the season.
Arsenal rejected City’s move at the time because Tierney was their only recognised cover at left-back, while selling to a title rival was always likely to prove problematic in the middle of the season.
As per the report., the interest from Manchester City remains ahead of the summer, at which point they will seek to secure a transfer for the Scotland international, who has an Expected Transfer Value (xTV) of €38.6 million.
Arsenal manager Arteta wants the 25-year-old to stay, but the Spaniard would not stand in the way of the left-back if he wanted to leave the Gunners at the end of the season.
The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
Well, if he’s that cheap then i guess it would be an alright transfer. https://t.co/zIyVVRrTEE

@CityzenAmerica: “0% chance City pay even that much for Tierney.”
@kaodi: “Only issue at left back is depth cuz Ake has that starting spot on lock (unless we sign Gvardiol)”
