Manuel Akanji makes admission over Man City’s title hopes

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has confessed that Pep Guardiola’s side will likely have to win all of their remaining games if they are to topple Arsenal and win the title.

The Gunners sit eight points clear of City at the top of the table but have played one game more than the reigning champions, who still have ten matches left to play.

With Arsenal showing no signs of collapse, City must keep winning and hope for more than a few favours from others in the league, and Akanji is well aware of the size of the challenge ahead.

“There are still a lot of games to go but we probably have to win all the games, and that is what we aim for, and we hope we can do that,” the Swiss defender said.

“It’s coming towards the end of the season. It’s tough games and we need to win in all of the games in these competitions. That is what we are working for and what we want. We have done a good job recently.”

City have a favourable run of fixtures to close out the season but must navigate tricky games against the likes of Chelsea and Brentford, as well as the obvious main event that is Arsenal’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on 26 April.

Guardiola’s side also have plenty of games against sides struggling towards the bottom of the standings. West Ham, Southampton, Leicester, Leeds and Everton are all on the schedule before the end of the campaign.

As for Arsenal, they face a tricky April which, alongside the trip to Manchester, will also see them butt heads with both Liverpool and Chelsea, while May also includes games against high-flyers Newcastle and Brighton.
