‘Oh no!’, ‘This kit bring bad luck to us’ – Man City Fans react to kit news ahead of Bayern Munich clash

A number of Manchester City supporters have reacted after it emerged that Pep Guardiola’s side are expected to wear their third kit vs Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Bayern have a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the Champions League semi-finals after goals from Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Braut Haaland helped the Citizens secured a commanding first-leg advantage.

City’s first-leg success may have given them the overall advantage in terms of the head-to-head record against Bayern, taking them to four wins compared to the Bavarians’ three, but it is a different story in Munich. Bayern have won two of the three meetings at the Allianz Arena: 2-0 in September 2011 and 1-0 in September 2014.

City did emerge victorious in the other game, coming back from 2-0 down to triumph 3-2 in December 2013 but there is a significant asterisk next to that result. Bayern were already assured of top spot in Group D ahead of that Matchday 6 assignment in 2013/14, making it essentially a dead rubber for the reigning European champions at the time.

Bayern Munich have every hope of taking out Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. They tend to rise to the big occasion and have the players to do so.

Munich was the one destination everyone wanted to avoid in the quarter-final draw. Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Viktoria Plzen have all come a cropper at the home of the record German champions in this season’s competition, shipping 11 goals. Bayern have not conceded a single goal at home in the Champions League this season.

Dramatic comebacks have become a regular part of the Champions League story in recent years. As recently as last year’s semi-finals, Manchester City led Real Madrid 5-3 on aggregate as the second leg entered the 90th minute.

The away goals rule was still in force at the time, meaning the Spanish side needed to score three to go through. They duly did so, striking twice in stoppage time and again in extra time to reach the final, which they eventually won.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola as well the fans are still wary of Bayern Munich despite massive advantage. City are in superb form at the moment, thumping Leicester last Saturday, but this will be a stern test.

Ahead of the second-leg tie, it’s been reported that Manchester City will be in their third kit vs Bayern Munich [A].
