‘Don’t do it Txiki’ – Man City fans react as club chiefs on red alert over possible move for “magic” player with €1billion release clause

Manchester City are on “red alert” over Barcelona youngster Ansu Fati’s availability at the end of the season, according to a new report.

Fati signed a new contract at the Camp Nou until 2027 in 2021, with the deal including a €1 billion release clause.

However, there has been plenty of speculation surrounding the 20-year-old’s future at Camp Nou recently, with a number of clubs linked with a move for him.

The Spaniard has not always managed to make himself a key part of Xavi’s plans at Barca this season, making 25 appearances in La Liga but only actually starting 10 of those matches.

The Spaniard has scored just four La Liga goals during the campaign, and amid a lack of minutes, the forwards father, Bori Fati, dramatically urged his son to leave the club and revealed that he was ‘annoyed’ by Barcelona’s recent treatment of the player.

“If it was up to me, I would take him [to another team] but [Ansu] wants to stay at Barcelona,” his father told Spanish outlet Cope, as relayed by ESPN.

“He does not want to sign for another club, but I want to see him succeed. As a dad, I am angry. Seeing Ansu play so little winds you up a little bit and sometimes I think as a father, not a coach.

“What annoys me is how they’re treating him in terms of minutes. One minute, two, three, I am not asking for him to be a starter whatever, because all the forwards at the club are phenomenonal, but we are talking about Ansu Fati, of Spain and Barcelona, who came through La Masia.”

For that reason, Fati could possibly look for a fresh challenge once the summer transfer window arrives, although with his current deal not expiring until 2027, it could take a huge bid for Barca to allow him to leave, given his long-term potential.

According to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider, City, who are expected to be in the market for a new winger this summer, are ‘keeping tabs’ on the forward.

While the attacker would “prefer to stay at the Catalan club if he is given guarantees over game time”, he is also “intrigued by a Premier League move.”

Manchester United and Chelsea are also mentioned in the report, with City’s Premier League rivals both “monitoring” the current situation.

Fati is someone who could light up the Etihad and be a sensational signing by the club this summer, having been hailed as someone “born with that talent and that magic” by Barca teammate Eric Garcia.

Despite his tender years, he already has 26 goals and nine assists to his name for Barca, while at international level, he has netted twice for Spain.

The report was shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.

@CameramanAustin: “We don’t need him”

@silvaesque007: “Fati is good but 90m? I think 90m might be good for Pedri. That’s who we should go after. Bellingham or Pedri.”

@ClaireMulcahy17: “Our academy players and mcatee are far better. Silly price tag on an injury prone average player …..don’t do it txiki”

@AlfikriWahyu09: “we have a much better academy player than Fati”

@naswakeyoassup: “Borges is right there”

@topboylikewavvy: “This better be one of those bait rumors”

@mcfcishaang: “Don’t mind this but would prefer Mitoma or Chiesa. Kvara is impossible and leao isn’t likely at the moment either”

@JakePritchardFC: “If we’re planning to move Foden central then this could be a smart signing”

@mattt1395: “If this is true, quite a clear that we plan to move Foden to a CM role next season”

@HxmZA__10_: “Fati is good. Injury prone but we got good medical staff. Pep can take him to another definitely. And he’s 19/20, 40-48 mils a fair price.”

@YakumiSarai: “IF City medical and Pep can return him before Xavi wreck his confidence, then yes, he would be a good signing. Otherwise no.”
