Joao Cancelo didn’t join his Bayern Munich teammates to celebrate their victory over Borussia Dortmund due to “frustration”.
Thomas Tuchel started his Bayern spell with a 4-1 victory as the Bavarians reclaimed Bundesliga’s top spot. The German boss started Benjamin Pavard at the right-hand side of his four-man backline.
Cancelo started another crucial game on Bayern’s bench, continuing his underwhelming loan spell at Allianz Arena. Tuchel brought in the Portugal international in the 80th minute, but he failed to impress as Bayern conceded a late goal from his side.
As Bayern Munich was celebrating its massive victory over Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker, there was one player who was missing from the postgame gathering — loanee Joao Cancelo.
According to Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić, it was no big deal.
“These are emotions after the game. It’s not a problem. It’s normal for a player to be disappointed when they don’t play,” Salihamidžić told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Cancelo is a top player and will get his playing time.”
Whatever the case, it was bad optics to bail on the team’s celebration. Reacting to this kind of behavior from Joao Cancelo, Many Man City fan tweeted:
@MecToule: “What a child! So sad because he’s an incredible player honestly!”
@CertiCitizen: “Cancelo definitely has main character syndrome”
@CmonCity10: “Used to love his passion for the club but man he’s tainted his image lately”
@Tim_Citeh: “He mustn’t come back”
@uzzygg: “If Pep willingly let him go out on loan on deadline day, that clearly means something.”
@FarbodobraF: “But people doubted the best manager in the history when he sent him away”
@akmalhxzim: “I won’t doubt any Pep’s decision from now on.”
@lcheung1998: “Even if he has the best abilities in the world and the best RB/LB in the world, he’ll never be played if he doesn’t change his attitude”
