‘Why would we strengthen their squad?’, ‘rather we take him back’ – Man City fans react as PL club want to sign Joao Cancelo

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Chelsea are interested in signing Joao Cancelo in the summer transfer window.

The Portugal international full-back joined defending Bundesliga champions Bayern on loan from City in the January transfer window.

The 28 year-old defender hold an attractive €70 million (£62 million) buy-option that they can trigger following the conclusion of the campaign, and convert his current loan deal into a permanent transfer.

However, given the finances of certain clubs in Europe, there remains every possibility that Bayern Munich may decide to look elsewhere for a player of Cancelo’s profile, and indicate that the player should return to Manchester City.

According to 90min, Chelsea are monitoring the situation of Cancelo, who is on loan at Bayern Munich from City at the moment and is able to play as a right-back as well.

It is further explained that there is now a belief that Etihad Stadium officials could drop their asking price ‘slightly’, with a fee closer to €60 million a ‘possibility’.
