‘No we aren’t’, ‘He’s more of a United type of signing’ – Man City fans react to report linking Juventus star with a move to the Etihad

Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the reigning Premier League champions are interested in resigning midfielder Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer.

The French midfielder, 27, was on the verge of leaving Juve in the summer transfer window, with United chief John Murtough even jetting into Turin with the hope of finalising a £15million transfer after weeks of fraught negotiations.

In a swift turn of events, the Red Devils pulled out of the strenuous deal because Rabiot’s agent and mother, Veronique, was demanding an eye-watering salary worth more £8m per year which would’ve made him one of the highest-paid players in manager Erik ten Hag ‘s squad.

Despite Rabiot’s resurgence at Juventus, which has seen him regain his starting spot under Massimiliano Allegri, the France international’s future remains undecided as his current deal expires this June.

According to Calcio Mercato writing about the midfielder’s future, Manchester City are one of the potential destinations for him in the summer.

It’s said that Rabiot even opened negotiations to renew his deal with Juventus, but there are two issues with that. First that the Old Lady are not sure they can pay him what they already offered, since they’re waiting for the outcome of the legal proceedings which may stop them from making such investment. Then there’s the fact that the player doesn’t give him the priority and is set to listen to more offers.

That’s where Premier League clubs come in, with Manchester City included. English sides can afford a bigger salary, and that could match the midfielder’s request, which is €10m plus bonuses.

Besides Manchester City, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain are all named as clubs where Rabiot could head to, as ‘everyone wants’ him.

The report shared on Twitter gathered a number of replies from a wide range of Man City supporters.
