The January transfer window may be on the verge of ending, but that doesn’t mean it’s not absolute chaos, with one transfer coming out of thin air this afternoon and taking over completely, dominating the headlines due to the sheer shock factor.
Joao Cancelo is on the verge of joining Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in a loan deal until the end of the ongoing season, with the German club also having an option to buy the player for a reported €70 million.
Cancelo arrived in Munich on Monday afternoon, with medical tests scheduled for later in the evening and a deal expected to be completed on the same day, as Bayern look to have the current City defender available for their next game on Wednesday night.
It’s a messy situation no one foresaw, one which has even started impacting City fans.
In the hours after the Cancelo to Bayern news emerged, the well-followed Twitter account known as @mcfc_lads announced the player had blocked them on Instagram.
Initially, they thought Cancelo’s account had been deactivated, but it turns out there was a more sinister reason for his absence on their feed.

A fellow Twitter user jokingly asked @mcfc_lads what they had done to Cancelo, to which the admin replied: “Nothing at all. He’s blocked a lot of the big City pages on Instagram.”
Yeah, it may be a clear sign that there’s no coming back to City for Cancelo, even if the switch to Bayern is only a loan one – for now.
