Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Rico Lewis is being considered by Gareth Southgate for a call-up to the England squad following a string of impressive performances this season.
Lewis has made 11 appearances for City’s senior side this season and was on the bench as Pep Guardiola’s side were beaten by rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Guardiola’s latest academy gem is performing exceptionally this season. At times, Lewis has kept Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker out of the Manchester City team, despite being just 18 years old.
Now, according to The Athletic, Rico Lewis could come into Gareth Southgate’s thinking after impressing during senior outings this season.
As per the report, It is however “unclear” if he will make the England squad in March due to fierce competition in his position.
If selected for Southgate’s next squad, Lewis would be in line to play in England’s first two Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine in March.
It’s been quite a surprise to see Lewis go from youth football straight to starting regularly for Pep Guardiola, but his performances have shown just why the Manchester City manager is already showing immense faith in him.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
