Manchester City is one of several clubs interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen and Germany midfielder Florian Wirtz. Wirtz has had an impressive season with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances. Despite his success, any potential transfer for Wirtz is not expected to happen until the end of the 2024/25 season, with Bayern Munich also showing interest in the 20-year-old.
Reports suggest that Wirtz sees Bayern Munich as an ‘intermediate step’ before moving abroad later in his career. Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all said to be interested in signing the talented midfielder. However, Manchester City may face challenges in signing Wirtz this summer as they are facing competition from other clubs and potential ongoing investigations into other transfer targets like Lucas Paqueta.
In addition to their interest in Wirtz, Manchester City is also exploring other midfield options, such as Bruno Guimaraes and full-back roles. With uncertainty over the future of their current back-up goalkeeper, the Etihad Stadium recruitment team is expected to consider options in other areas of the field.
