Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Ilkay Gundogan is set to enter into talks with the club over a new contract.
The 32-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and over the last few days, reports have emerged that the German international was close to joining Barcelona in the summer window.
It is understood that Gundogan is considered as a natural replacement for Sergio Busquets who is expected to leave Camp Nou at the end of his contract.
However, these rumours seem to be untrue and Gundogan looks to be extending his stay with the club.
According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Ilkay Gundogan is in talks with Manchester City over extending his contract at the Etihad Stadium beyond the end of the ongoing campaign.
Sam Lee also states that the recent renewal of manager Pep Guardiola could be the major factor that makes Gundogan choose to renew with the club.
When questioned about his future last year, Gundogan admitted that he was relaxed about what will happen once his deal at the Etihad Stadium expires.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@SollyyKun10: “This is a very good step, hope he stays for more 2 years at least and we keep signing alternative players for the future but we need our backbone to still solid so the transition process is done peacefully”
@du_mcfc: “Thought he was off to barca?”
@_Ademolly: “He’s here to stay!.”
