Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has warned Manchester City that his old club are here to stay in the Premier League title race after their victory over West Ham United on Boxing Day.
Said Benrahma gave the Hammers a half-time lead from the penalty spot after Jarrod Bowen was brought down in the area. However, Mikel Arteta’s men pulled off a brilliant comeback in the second half to secure the three points.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah all bagged goals as the North London club moved eight points clear of City who have dropped to third following Newcastle United’s victory at Leicester City. The Blues have a chance to narrow the gap to five points again on Wednesday night when they face Leeds United.
Speaking after the game on Amazon Prime Video, Henry made sure to highlight Arsenal’s title credentials. “Now it is up to Man City to answer,” he claimed.
“Yes, we are here to stay. It is important to say we have a team. Arsenal fans have been waiting for a team to compete. Not one or two players, we have a squad.
“You win a title with a squad. That is very important and what Eddie Nketiah showed tonight, he showed that he can be the answer for the time being. We don’t know how long exactly the time being is. However long they want him to be the answer.
“For the time being we’ll have to wait for Gabriel [Jesus] to come back, but that’s exactly what Eddie did.” It had been suggested that Arsenal may be struggling in the forward line after ex-City star Jesus picked up a knee injury at the World Cup.
However Arteta’s side showed that, at present, there is no concern about goal shortages. City still have to play Arsenal twice in the Premier League before the end of the campaign.
