Yaya Toure has backed Arsenal to ‘carry on’ going in their battle with Manchester City for the Premier League title, despite Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
Mikel Arteta’s side are five points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City after an exceptional start to the season. And the predictions are starting to come in that the Gunners could see the job through and go and win the league for the first time since 2004.
There has been no let-up for Arteta’s side and the World Cup break may actually come at a bad time for the Gunners, who would have liked to have carried on their momentum.
The Gunners have only lost one league game this season, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Blues’ bitter rivals Manchester United. City will find themselves five points behind the North London club when the season resumes.
Whilst Arsenal’s aim was to secure Champions League football this season, after narrowly missing out last term, not many expected them to be in such a position where they have lost just one game after 14 matches.
Former Manchester City midfielder Toure thinks they have a ‘great chance’ to secure glory against the dominant Pep Guardiola.
The World Cup break hasn’t helped, nor has Jesus returning with an injury, but despite all of that, Toure is interestingly enough still backing those from north London, as he told Sky Sports News.
“Arsenal have a great chance,” said Yaya Toure. “I think Arsenal is going to carry on. Even maybe Jesus’ injury, at the moment.
“But let’s see different things as well. Arsenal was on top before the World Cup. I think maybe they could still carry on, even though Manchester City are really strong.”
Manchester City have won four out of the last five titles and they could become the first team since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United to win three titles in a row.
