Manchester City could target Leicester City’s midfield ace and more transfer rumours

While it’s unlikely that City will go out and sign a midfielder in January as Pep Guardiola does not tend to make signings mid-way through the season, after the World Cup they could get their ducks in a row.

Guardiola will need to add reinforcements to the midfield as Ilkay Gundogan’s contract expires in the summer of 2023 while Bernardo Silva – who has a contract until 2025 – has made no secret of his desire to go and play in Spain.

There are plenty of high-quality players out there whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season. From January onwards, potential suitors are free to sign pre-contractual agreements with them, so City could look to do that.

In a recent report from Manchester Evening News, it was mentioned that Manchester City could target Youri Tielemans of Leicester City as the midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season.

Tielemans is one of the finest midfielders in the league and has been delivering top performances for them in the last few seasons.

The Leicester man acts as the link between the defensive and attacking department, and he does well to transition the ball from the backline to his teammates in attack. He is an excellent passer of the ball and has the vision to find his teammates who are on the run.

His arrival at the Etihad Stadium would add more bite and steel to the midfield department while increasing competition in the starting XI as well.

Elsewhere, Man City executives have promised Pep Guardiola that they will target AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao next summer.

Thats according to Fichajes which claims City’s hierarchy gave Guardiola assurances that they will back him in the transfer market after he agreed to a new two-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola is said to be keen on Portuguese winger Leao, who has enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign with reigning Italian champions Milan. Although City are already stacked in attack, the poor form of Riyad Mahrez may convince Guardiola and City that they need to refresh things in attack.
