Portsmouth’s sporting director, Rich Hughes, expressed his interest in re-signing Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson for the upcoming season. Despite suffering a long-term knee injury that cut short his loan spell with Portsmouth in January, Robertson played a crucial role in helping the club secure promotion to the Sky Bet Championship. The 21-year-old had five direct goal involvements and made 23 league appearances before his injury.
Robertson, who has previously featured in Manchester City’s first-team squad, was on loan at Portsmouth from the City Football Academy. Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has also expressed a desire to bring Robertson back to the club, emphasizing his talent and contributions before his injury. The club’s sporting director, Rich Hughes, echoed this sentiment, stating that they would be open to revisiting negotiations with Robertson once he has fully recovered.
In addition to Robertson, Manchester City has seen success with their loan players, including 20-year-old defender Callum Doyle who achieved promotion with Leicester City back to the Premier League. The potential reunion between Portsmouth and Robertson highlights the positive impact the midfielder had on the team prior to his injury and the interest in his future availability for the upcoming season.
