Manchester City are looking to strengthen for the future, and have their eyes on Atalanta B player Giorgio Scalvini.
Scalvini’s form in Serie A has caused the young Italian to emerge as a target for a number of clubs not just in Italy but also abroad.
The Atalanta defender’s combination of defensive qualities and ability in possession as well as proficiency playing in a back three are very attractive to Man City.
The Premier League champions are serious about trying to sign the 18-year-old, according to Corriere dello Sport as relayed by Sport Witness.
Based on his form for Atalanta this season, the Gazzetta report that Scalvini’s asking price will have risen above €20 million, likely as high as €30 million at this point given the clubs interested.
The 18-year-old is also a target for Juventus and Inter Milan, and that his price tag could be as high as €30 million.
Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola has agreed on a two-year contract extension with Manchester City, committing his future the club until the summer of 2025.
That’s according to the Athletic, who claims that the Catalan had agreed fresh terms to extend his stay as manager of the Premier League champions.
Much was made about the Catalan’s future, with his present deal set to expire at the end of the current season. It has long been speculated that information on a extension would arise during the World Cup break, with Guardiola visiting City owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak in Abu Dhabi.
Guardiola has long stated that he is happy at the Etihad Stadium and wasn’t looking to leave despite his contract running down, so it’s not a shock to hear that he’s going to stay beyond 2023.
The City boss is currently in Abu Dhabi with club officials – attending the Grand Prix last weekend – and is known to be happy in his role as manager.
