Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims ‘loose talks’ have taken place over a possible new two or three-year contract for Ilkay Gundogan.
Gundogan has been playing for Manchester City since 2016 when he joined from Borussia Dortmund. He has featured in almost 300 competitive matches for the English giants, helping the club secure no less than four Premier League titles.
The German international has been the centre of attention at Barcelona lately, with the La Liga club reportedly keeping close tabs on the player’s current situation at Manchester City.
Gundogan has said that he is “quite calm” regarding his situation and also hinted that whether he stays at the club will depend on Guardiola’s future.
“I’m quite calm, confident with my situation and happy where I am. I don’t feel there is a decision to take right now. It’s quite normal to have rumours when you’re in this situation,” Gundogan told reporters.
“Also, the manager’s contract is expiring in the summer, too, so I don’t really know what’s going to happen with him – no-one really knows.
“If you look back to my career then you will see everywhere I was, it was because of the manager that was there.”
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg (h/t Sport Bible), ‘loose talks’ have been held about the possibility of a new two or three-year contract for Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City.
It is highlighted that as well as the 32 year-old being in no hurry to make his mind up over his future at the Etihad Stadium, a decision will not be made until spring 2023 at the very earliest.
As per Florian Plettenberg, the decision of Pep Guardiola on his own future with the reigning Premier League champions is ‘important’ for Gundogan.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
