Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Erling Haaland has a €200M release clause from 2024, and the value decreases as his five-year contract progresses.
The Norwegian signed for City from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022. He cost an initial £51 million which would rise to around £85.5 million in total after taking into account agent fees and signing bonuses.
Since then, Haaland has already doubled his price tag and is currently the most in-form player in world football. The 22-year-old has scored 20 goals in 12 games across all competitions for City, as well as scoring three hat-tricks in just eight matches.
City manager Pep Guardiola recently denied reports the Norway international has a clause that gives Real Madrid extra leverage in negotiations.
According to the latest information from the Athletic, Erling Haaland has a €200M release clause at Manchester City from 2024, and the value decreases as his five-year contract progresses.
The report claims the clause applies to any club outside England. No premier league rivals will be able to trigger an option.
They also report Real Madrid and Barcelona ‘might knock on the Etihad’s door’ but there’s doubt the clubs would be able to pay the required funds.
It was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
“This is absolutely fine. The absolute worse case scenario is that does leave in 2024 and we make €150m profit on him… I’m sure he’ll stay a bit longer though.”

“I’m okay with it. 200m is a lot of money and we win either way”

“”It is not true”, Pep said. “He has not got a release clause for Real Madrid or any other team. It is not true, that is all I can say. The rumours, people talk, we cannot control it.”
For “people talk”, substitute “journalists lie”.”

“So… show us the actual evidence of this clause?…. Pep said clearly “there is no clause”, Pep is many things but he is 100% NOT a liar”

“It’s a W anyway, we get 3x the money we paid for him and he goes out of England to play so doesn’t have an impact on us domestically. Although I still don’t think any of the big clubs can afford £180m + the wages, most are in debt or skint. Hope he stays forever.”

“Still a long way to go. Let’s not deviate. He’s scoring a hat-trick today”
