Pep Guardiola has given an update on the fitness of several players ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen.

Rodri suffered a calf injury in training ahead of City’s derby win at the weekend, raising doubts over the Spain international’s fitness for midweek.

Walker suffered another injury setback on Sunday, with the Englishman forced off against United midway through the first-half.

Giving a team news update ahead of the Champions League on Wednesday, Guardiola said he expects Walker to be ruled out of the Copenhagen clash, while Rodri will be assessed on Tuesday after he missed the derby altogether with a minor calf issue.

Guardiola said: “We will train this afternoon [Tuesday] and know exactly if Rodri feels better. I think Kyle is out but we wait for the training session.”

Guardiola confirmed last Friday that he expected John Stones to miss no more than a couple of weeks after the defender was injured while on duty with England.

There was also more encouraging news on Kalvin Phillips who recently underwent surgery on his shoulder.

Pep, who suggested Phillips may be fit for the World Cup later this year, was asked if the former Leeds United star might be available for City before the tournament.

“I hope so. I hope for him and the national team,” he said.

“But I am not a physio – the doctor told me he is doing good.”

When pressed whether that could mean a potential return in a fortnight or so, the boss quipped: “In the summer I will take a licence to become a doctor!”
